Family Medicine Retreat

This past weekend CR and I went to Portland for the Family Medicine Retreat. CR was on call Thursday night, so when he got home he slept for maybe an hour (poor guy!) took Ty to the kennel (because I seriously struggle with that), then we packed up the car and headed to Portland for the weekend! Portland is only two hours South of Lacey but it was a first visit for both of us. After we checked into the hotel on Friday we met up with two of our friends from Georgetown College, Lindsey and Chris Wagoner! The Wagoners moved to the Portland area this July and we had not seen them in over three years, since we graduated from Georgetown. It was wonderful to see familiar faces on the West Coast and get to catch up with them. We have already planned our next get together because they are coming to Seattle this Saturday. We are excited to spend the next three years with these two close by!

After we had dinner with Lindsey and Chris we went back to the hotel for meet and greet time with the group. Everyone introduced themselves in a laid back setting and the boys played lots of Rock Band - CR plays a pretty mean set of drums! Then we headed to downtown Portland for some Buffalo Wild Wings (a restaurant we have missed because there are none in our area). Saturday started off at a park in Portland where med students, 1st year residents, 2nd year residents, 3rd year residents, staff and their families became teams that competed in a number of obviously medically minded games. They started out with cornhole which the 1st year residents (CR's team) lost in the first round :( Then they played volleyball and the 1st years won the first round and then lost in the second round. There was an exciting game of Blongo Ball, also known as, "testicle toss". If your imagination fails you at this, here is a picture:

The day in the park ended with an obstacle course that included dizzy bat, wheel barrel races, cartwheels, low crawl, and sprinting. Then the teams were given 4 hours to complete a photo scavenger hunt for 20 items in the town of Portland. Our team was really into it at first, and then we decided to have fun with it and take all of our pictures at the three story mall within walking distance of our hotel. Here are some of the results:

10th Calvary

Sprechen Sie Deutsch

Flower Power

That's Not My Bag, Baby

Touchdown Jesus (photo of Jesus on the Iphone)

Blue Oyster

Bridge Over Troubled Water

Land Before Time

We won the scavenger hunt, but lost overall in the weekend festivities. Saturday night the entire group had a fancy dinner downtown where they had a slide show of pictures from the weekend. CR and I came back early on Sunday to pick Ty up from the kennel and then we took him to Tolmie Beach during low tide, which is one of his favorites. We ended the weekend by having local curry food with CR's classmates. I guess it's a good sign when you've spent the entire weekend with a group of people and then you plan something with them the night when you all get back home. It was a great weekend spent with great people!

Tomorrow is a BIG day in the Rohrbough Household. It is CR's BIRTHDAY!!!! Unfortunately he is on call, but so are two of his classmates, so we are going to all celebrate in the hospital tomorrow night and then celebrate as a family at home on Wednesday.
