Anyway, back to the point. I have never been an athlete but I do enjoy the after effects of working out. I just feel better, sleep better, eat better and have more energy. When CR and I got engaged in September of 2008 I decided that training for a half-marathon would be a great way to get in shape for our big day. I talked with some friends who ran, and they recommended a training schedule by Hal Higdon (http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm). I got about half way through and stopped because things got crazy busy in my life, ie. planning a wedding, full-time counseling job, thought I was dying when I got the flu for the first time, finishing my masters, fostering my Dad's 130lb. English Mastiff, etc. Needless to say I could not make the time to run.
Jump to now, and we live in a gorgeous part of the US, I was unemployed for 6 months, and we have an insanely hyper dog, so I decided to pick up running again. I really enjoy having a schedule and something to strive for. Running at this point is not something I dread, it's something I look forward to. Even so, it takes effort to stay committed and I am so thankful to my friends and family who push me to keep it up!
The half-marathon I am training for is May 15th in Olympia, WA - http://www.capitalcitymarathon.org/. I will be running it with two of my co-workers (Nicki and Tracey) and the best part is...MY DAD IS COMING TO VISIT, so he will be with CR at the finish line!!!! I am SO excited!
In preparation for the half my co-worker, Nicki, and I decided to run the St. Patty's Day 10K Race on the Army base last weekend, which is 6.2 miles. It was a rainy rainy day but we powered through! Here are some pictures from our day:
My supportive and oh so festive husband. Yes, those are Ninja Turtle socks :)
Wonder how there are pictures of me running? Well, my wonderful husband decided the night before that he would run the race with me. It was a HUGE surprise, especially since he appeared around the 3K and slapped me on the booty. I could not have been driven or encouraged more than I was with him beside me. Thank you again, CR. It meant more than you know.
