Who Wears Short Hair??

Feels weird posting pictures of my face, but got a new hair cut this week. I guess I want to be just like my little sister when I grow up so I went for her look (just not as brave as she is yet) :) I love you Laura!

Happy Birthday, CR!!!

Tuesday was CR's 27th birthday! I know, I know I am a little behind in posting - sorry! Unfortunately CR was on call Tuesday, which means he went in at 6am on Tuesday and had to stay at the hospital until noon on Wednesday. Thankfully he was on call with 3 of his peers so Tuesday night, almost all of his "classmates" (1st year residents) got together for dinner of pizza, buffalo chicken cheese dip, popcorn, sunchips, fruit, vegetables, and made from scratch chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake!! We even sang Happy Birthday! We have amazing friends!

This is one of the few pictures I took that night, but this little sweetie is Madeline, the daughter of Mike and Soobin. Her dad is also a 1st year resident. They got CR some Under Armour pants that look amazingly comfortable!

Wednesday morning CR skipped out a little early and got home around 9. We immediately opened gifts from my mom and me. CR isn't big on attention and he's especially not a gift guy but he seemed to really enjoy what he got.

CR decided he wanted to open one gift on Monday night so he opened the one his parents sent from West Virginia. Ty definitely wanted in on the excitement:

A Georgetown College Shirt made of what? Under Armour! Thanks Momma Pot!!

My gifts to my husband, candy, Season 1 of Big Bang, and a picture frame I painted for his desk:

Although blurry, that card says Lunch = Qdoba (don't ask about the face, I'm just the photographer)

After sleeping for maybe an hour or so we headed about 30 minutes North to eat at Qdoba. CR was upset when we first moved here to find out there were no Qdoba's close by (similar to my sadness about no Sonic or Chick Fil A). One day while eating at the Pancake House with a friend I saw one! It was seriously like passing the White House or something to that grandeur because CR likes it that much! So for his birthday lunch celebration I knew we would come back and eat chicken nachos :)

After lunch we went to see The Town, Ben Affleck's new movie. We both really enjoyed it!! After the movie we came back home and loaded Ty up in the car for a trip to the dog park. He is becoming less and less social when there is a ball present. Fetch is his absolute favorite game and it could ensue for hours if our arms had the strength! We usually don't even take a tennis ball anymore, but he ALWAYS finds one at the park somehow.

After the dog park we went to the grocery store to buy steaks for dinner! As part of his birthday gift, CR's parents sent us money to go to a nice dinner - thanks Mr. and Mrs. R! CR decided he would rather have steaks cooked on the grill at home, so we did! We also did macaroni and cheese with salad, yum! We ended the night watching The Big Bang Theory, (thanks Mom for Season 2)!!

Thanks to all who participated in CR's birthday near and far! We love and miss you all tons!

Family Medicine Retreat

This past weekend CR and I went to Portland for the Family Medicine Retreat. CR was on call Thursday night, so when he got home he slept for maybe an hour (poor guy!) took Ty to the kennel (because I seriously struggle with that), then we packed up the car and headed to Portland for the weekend! Portland is only two hours South of Lacey but it was a first visit for both of us. After we checked into the hotel on Friday we met up with two of our friends from Georgetown College, Lindsey and Chris Wagoner! The Wagoners moved to the Portland area this July and we had not seen them in over three years, since we graduated from Georgetown. It was wonderful to see familiar faces on the West Coast and get to catch up with them. We have already planned our next get together because they are coming to Seattle this Saturday. We are excited to spend the next three years with these two close by!

After we had dinner with Lindsey and Chris we went back to the hotel for meet and greet time with the group. Everyone introduced themselves in a laid back setting and the boys played lots of Rock Band - CR plays a pretty mean set of drums! Then we headed to downtown Portland for some Buffalo Wild Wings (a restaurant we have missed because there are none in our area). Saturday started off at a park in Portland where med students, 1st year residents, 2nd year residents, 3rd year residents, staff and their families became teams that competed in a number of obviously medically minded games. They started out with cornhole which the 1st year residents (CR's team) lost in the first round :( Then they played volleyball and the 1st years won the first round and then lost in the second round. There was an exciting game of Blongo Ball, also known as, "testicle toss". If your imagination fails you at this, here is a picture:

The day in the park ended with an obstacle course that included dizzy bat, wheel barrel races, cartwheels, low crawl, and sprinting. Then the teams were given 4 hours to complete a photo scavenger hunt for 20 items in the town of Portland. Our team was really into it at first, and then we decided to have fun with it and take all of our pictures at the three story mall within walking distance of our hotel. Here are some of the results:

10th Calvary

Sprechen Sie Deutsch

Flower Power

That's Not My Bag, Baby

Touchdown Jesus (photo of Jesus on the Iphone)

Blue Oyster

Bridge Over Troubled Water

Land Before Time

We won the scavenger hunt, but lost overall in the weekend festivities. Saturday night the entire group had a fancy dinner downtown where they had a slide show of pictures from the weekend. CR and I came back early on Sunday to pick Ty up from the kennel and then we took him to Tolmie Beach during low tide, which is one of his favorites. We ended the weekend by having local curry food with CR's classmates. I guess it's a good sign when you've spent the entire weekend with a group of people and then you plan something with them the night when you all get back home. It was a great weekend spent with great people!

Tomorrow is a BIG day in the Rohrbough Household. It is CR's BIRTHDAY!!!! Unfortunately he is on call, but so are two of his classmates, so we are going to all celebrate in the hospital tomorrow night and then celebrate as a family at home on Wednesday.

CR's Study Buddy

I could not resist posting this picture from the past week. The other night CR had a big presentation to prepare for so while he was reading some research Ty, jumped up into bed and laid like this. If you have ever met Ty you know that he is insane all day long, he literally never stops! But from about 9pm to 9am he is the biggest cuddler we have ever met!

Tara's Mom Visits & New Car!

This week we had another visitor from the West Coast, Tara's Mom! She was in from last Tuesday until yesterday and we really enjoyed showing her around. We visited Olympia, Lacey, Tacoma, Fort Lewis, Steliacoom, and Seattle.

The first night she was here we took her to sushi. She had never tried it before (ever!) and she said she liked it! I hope she really did... On Thursday, we visited the Tacoma Farmer's Market where she bought some delicious peaches and we sampled some popcorn, shaved ice, and donuts - an all around healthy food day. We took Ty to the dog park which is always a good time, watched the sunset over the water in Steliacoom, and then came home to have homemade Alfredo.

On Friday CR was on call, so the girls went to Seattle for the day. Surprisingly, we were able to meet up with one of our translators from Fort Liberte. Herman works for a cruise line now and he contacted my Mom via Facebook and told us he would be docked from 6am - 4pm on Friday. How's that for perfect timing? We did a tour with Ride the Ducks of Seattle which is an hour on land and thirty minutes on Lake Union (which is by the way where the Sleepless in Seattle house is located and on sale for 2.5 million if anyone is interested). We also went to Pike's Place Market and Mom was completely overwhelmed with the amount of shops and people there.

On Monday and Tuesday and some in between, we baked pumpkin bread and Mom made CR some chocolate chip cookies. Mom and I made two visits to Shipwrecked Beads (a local bead warehouse) and between the two of us we made 12 pairs of earrings! Lookout friends and family, your Christmas gift this year just might be homemade :) We also went shopping, slept in, walked A LOT, caught up on some reading, and watched several movies.

On her last night in town we introduced Mom to Pho (pronounced Fuh). Pho is a soup with rice noodles, usually beef or chicken (but they also have veggie or tofu), basil, lime, bean sprouts, and chives. Pho restaurants are very common here, but before moving neither of us had ever heard of it.

On a different note, I must give my Mom credit for being so patient with us. She was up for anything or nothing at all and was ready to go with whatever plan we threw at her. On Sunday after church she was even kind enough to go car shopping with us and maybe she was our good luck because...WE GOT A CAR!!!! We are the proud new owners of a 2010 Sage green Subaru Forester. It is exactly what we were looking for and we cannot say enough nice things about this car!
